This Glossary is provided to help guests understand more about the rental of inns, resorts and vacation rentals. It is not comprehensive but serves as a primer for terms guests may encounter in renting specialty lodging. Not all terms apply to all properties or managers.
Fleece
Another word for towels, wash cloths and math mats

Gite
A French holiday home available for rent on a short term basis. Usually self-catering and fully furnished. Technically the owner must live close by to provide help, assistance, and a warm welcome to guests. Often Gites are old cottages or converted outbuildings and barns close to owners' residence.

Gleaning
In agriculture, farmers allow charity groups to enter fields already picked, to take left over crops. In lodging, charitable groups are allowed to use or sell nights unlikely to sell. This provides benefit to the charities, promotional value to properties and goodwill for all.

Goldener Inns
Company that provides lodging services to the Goldener Network of Inns and Resorts. Those members provide management services to small unique Inns and Resorts Vacation Rentals in various geographic areas. The Goldener Inns name is promoted to consumers to establish a national and international brand name.

Guest House
A house, condo or other living unit used for short-term rental, usually in a resort or recreational area and having sleeping quarters, bath and kitchen. Also known as a Vacation Rental, Holiday let., Holiday House, Holiday Cottage, Holiday Villa or (in France) a Gite.

Guest Ranch
Usually working ranches that accept guests for lodging, food service, horse back riding and other ranch and farm activities.

A co-hosting program for lodging owners offered by members of the Goldener inns & resort Network, such as Inns, Resorts and other multi-unit properties.

Hostel
An establishment that provides inexpensive lodging often for students, workers or travelers, some in shared bed or bunk rooms, sometimes with modest individual rooms. Usually baths are across the hall. Many have bending machines and coffee service, but seldom sit down dining.

A certain amount above and beyond the rental rate charged to renters wishing to use your hot tub.

A commercial service that sells access to the internet to individuals at properties..

Istay
Provides software, marketing & reservation services to Inns, Resorts and Vacation Rental Management firms - acting as parts of their back office operations

Key Safe
A stout box which can be attached to a build, that requires a user to punch in a numerical combination code in order to retrieve a key from inside. Usually a mechanical device, not electronic. Some types can be hung on a door knob.

Linens

Lodging Taxes
Includes the sales, tourism and sometimes other taxes imposed on lodging by governments in a given destination. Facilities are required to add these taxes to the price of lodging and sometimes other costs.

Maximum Occupancy
The greatest number of registered occupants allowed to inhabit a property. It may sleep less than this number. Unregistered guests are not allowed. Drop in guests are not allowed.

Mid-Term Rental
(A) a 30 day or longer occupancy, used to comply with regulations that prohbiti stays of less than 30 days. But usually not more than 45 to 60 days.
